During the summer window, Manchester United and City are expected to negotiate a deal fo James McAtee.
James McAtee could possible join rivals Manchester United
Man Utd are planning for a move for Man City‘s James McAtee. The 22-year-old could become the first player in over ten years to swap the Etihad for Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Utd will be looking to refresh an ageing midfield.
McAtee has managed to score seven goals in 25 games across all competitions this term so far. However, he has got very limited game time in the Premier League. Although, City are looking to replace Kevin De Bruyne with Morgan Gibbs-White or Florian Wirtz as per reports.
The England U21 player would like to get more minutes on the field. His deal is valid until 2026. That means interested clubs, including Man Utd, Forest, Newcastle and AC Milan are more likely to make bids.
Youngsters in focus as Utd restructure midfield
The Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim will be looking to bring new midfielders this June. Moreover, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are struggling to compete at the highest intensity and are set to leave this June as well.
The City’s young midfielder is a player from Salford. He grew up in Manchester City’s academy. United need a player like him in the squad. They are rebuilding their strategy around signing young, talented players.
Although, Man City said no to a loan move from Bayer Leverkusen in January. That was including a £25 million option to buy as well. The German club might again try their luck this summer.
United will need to act fast though, as other clubs are keen and Guardiola is still unclear about McAtee’s future. Allowing another academy player to slip away, is something City won’t want to risk.
Cole Palmer also left the PL giants for Chelsea. And now he is performing well for the Blues.
The City midfielder will be only the 15th player to have represented both clubs in Manchester. And the first to go from blue to red directly, since 2012.
