Manchester United have reportedly locked in on Jan Oblak as they look to replace Andre Onana between the posts.
United want to replace Onana with Jan Oblak
As per a new report from El Nacional, Man Utd are preparing to submit a formal bid for the Atletico Madrid‘s Jan Oblak. Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has apparently made up his mind to sign a keeper ahead of the June window.
Onana’s poor performances and costly errors have led the club to see other options. Oblak is now the frontrunner as their potential target. Although, Porto’s Diogo Costa was initially on Utd’s radar. But, Manchester City’s growing interest in the Porto man has forced the Red Devils to switch gears.
The Slovenia international is still regarded as one of the best in the business. He also has a decorated career including five Zamora Trophies. And also the La Liga’s Player of the Season award in Atletico’s 2020/21 title run.
Formal Offer is in Works
United are said to be looking seriously into getting Oblak’s deal done. They are likely to make a formal offer close to €30 million (£25.5 million).
The La Liga side are open to parting ways with him out of respect for his 11 years of service. He is under contract until 2028. But, the idea of a new challenge in the Premier League seems to be growing on the Slovenian international.
Additionally, Onana is most probably on his way with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Talks with Neom SC are reportedly in progress. So, United’s timing could be spot on. If Oblak gives the green light, Atletico are unlikely to stand in his way.
For Amorim’s side, it would be a great upgrade in experience. That’s exactly what they need between the sticks for the next season.
