Manchester United to sell Champions League winner?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United have had a rough season. From their manager being criticized every week to their players underperforming, they have suffered. Manchester United have been gradually making worse signings every transfer window.

Manchester United have been under a lot of scrutiny recently. They will certainly look to make changes in personnel this season. However, to make way for signings, they have to offload some players. The obvious one on this list seems to be the third highest earned in the Premier League.

The player is none other than Real Madrid legend Casemiro. It is reported that he earns more than Bruno Fernandes at the club. It has been confirmed that Erik Ten Hag will remain at the helm of management at Manchester United. Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently backed the Dutchman to rebuild the squad this season in order to compete for titles. It would not be shocking to see Ten Hag be brutal with his squad during this transfer window, though, as he cannot afford another season like one that ended last year.

This makes Casemiro’s future uncertain. The multiple-time Champions League winner is regarded as one of the elite central defensive midfielders of his generation, if not of all time. However, many people and more so, the Red Devils’ fans, have questioned if he is the same player now that he was at Real Madrid. Many people have questioned his stamina and his ability to cover the ground on the pitch while attending to his defensive duties.

His career has been magnificent at Real Madrid. However, his time at Manchester United has been short of what was expected of him when he signed for the club. This could lead to him not being a part of Erik Ten Hag’s plans for next season’s midfield.

Manchester United looking for a rebuild

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear. He will not rest easy until the glory days are back in the theater of dreams. Big changes are afoot. The sale of Casemiro could be the beginning. The Brazil international earns a whopping £350k per week, as per Capology. With this, the Brazilian surpasses even United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, who earns £240k a week, in terms of income.

This means that Casemiro earns only less than City’s Erling Haaland and Kevin DeBruyne. Mohammed Salah earns equal wages to Casemiro at Liverpool. However, this is not it; Casemiro gets a bonus every year estimated to be around £5.2 million a year.

Ten Hag knows that the team is better off without the aging midfielder because he cannot afford to depend on him again for the upcoming campaign. The former Real Madrid star was not playing in United’s finest performance of the year, an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, and he did not play a minute.

Casemiro’s stay is financially draining for Manchester United. He would stay only if his performances were good enough to justify the bill. However, that has not been the case, unfortunately. However, Casemiro Disagrees. He recently said in an interview with Sky Sports,

“I was considered one of the best signings of the Premier League last season, and now I’m not worth anything anymore?”.

The criticism is disrespectful. So, when it’s lacking respect, then it’s worrying, and I don’t have to respect that either”,

Casemiro has garnered interest from the Saudi Pro League. The Brazilian could join his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr. Al Nassr have recently shown interest in signing Casemiro. This could be an opportunity for Manchester United to get the money and invest it somewhere else or on a new signing.
