Manchester United to bring back Jonny Evans on a free transfer?

Jonny Evans could see a return to his boyhood club Manchester United if he capitalizes the opportunity and sign for the club as his current contract at Leicester City expires next summer.

Manchester United have been dealing with defensive problems in back line for a couple of years. Rectifying, still rectifying, mistakes tend to occur often between Red Devils’ centre-backs. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to land a left-sided centre-back to the squad in the January transfer window.

The Northern Irishman has played 198 matches for United. He has managed to win three English Premier League titles and a Champions League winners medal with United before leaving for West Brom in 2015.

According to reports, United have shortlisted Jonny Evans as a potential signing and is keeping a close watch on his international situation as well. Manchester United only has €20 million to use in the January transfer window which builds up reasons to believe in the transfer.

Reports also claim both Solskjaer and his assistant Mike Phelan are admirers of Evans ability.

Jonny Evans has showcased a stellar performance with Foxes in the 2019-20 season. Despite that, Evans is still to agree on a new deal with Leicester City who has only seven months remaining currently. One month more of that could see him be open for discussions for a free transfer next month.

At the beginning of the year, Brendan Rodgers described Leicester’s move for Evans as the ‘deal of the century’.

‘I think for me, where I was at an advantage, I’ve known Jonny as a young player, obviously from back home, and saw him move across to Manchester United with his family,’

‘But I have to say, Leicester City got the deal of the century for £3.5m to bring in a player of that level.

‘And when I came in I had an understanding that he was a good player.

However, there has been nothing formal in terms of contract talks. if anything pans out, the deal is sure to happen with ease. Manchester United can use experienced Jonny Evans to solve their problems if they manage to secure his signature before Leicester City.
