Manchester United to Trigger Jesse Lingard Contract Extension


Manchester United will trigger the contract extension of Jesse Lingard to prevent him from leaving for free in 2021.

Lingard has a contract that will finish in the next summer at Manchester United and to stop him from signing a pre-contract in January and leaving for free, Manchester United will trigger a 12-month contract extension which they usually include in the contract for situations like this.

The 28-year-old England international has come through the youth setup of Manchester United. He played for United more than 200 times in the Old Trafford outfit and including winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League along the way.

Jesse Lingard is an attacking midfielder who has played 203 times for Manchester United and managed to score 33 times. His best outing was in the 17/18 season where he scored 13 goals in all competitions.

Future of Jesse Lingard after Contract Extension?

Although Manchester United will trigger the one-year contract extension, the future of Jesse Lingard at Old Trafford is still unclear. He is attracting plenty of interest from around Europe as the January transfer window approaches.

Lingard was a key player in the England squad for their run to the World Cup semi-final in 2018, and also the first team player for Manchester United under Ole Gunner Solskjær before the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. And now after the arrival of Donny van de Beek, he is now even lower in the pecking order.

This season he has made just two appearances for Solskjaer’s team — both coming in the Carabao Cup. His last international match for England came in June 2019 against Switzerland.

The contract extension could help Manchester United to earn some profit in the transfer market or loaning him out in January and think about his future. Solskjær always admires his attitude and influence in the dressing room.

From the Premier League clubs Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, and Leicester City are among the clubs monitoring the England international’s future at Old Trafford.

Borussia Monchengladbach and AS Roma are among the teams from around Europe are also tracking the situation to buy him from Manchester United.
