According to a report by Metro, Manchester United have offered €45 million to Sevilla for signing Jules Kounde. But the offer was rejected by Sevilla as they already made clear about wanting €80 million for the French center-back.
Kounde has already revealed his views about leaving Sevilla this summer, following the interest from elite European clubs. But the Frenchman didn’t reveal which club he would join, as he wanted to keep his mind focused on Euro 2020. However, Kounde will now get time to decide his future, as France is knocked out of Euro by Switzerland.
The center-back joined Sevilla in 2019 at a price of €25 million from Bordeaux. The Frenchman only took two seasons to raise his value to €80 million in the transfer market. The main reason for such a high value is because of his impressive performance at the backline for Sevilla.
Kounde has been a regular name in the team sheet while appearing 88 times for Julen Lopetuigi in the past two seasons. His defending also helped Sevilla to lift the Europa League trophy in 2019/20. While his performance last season took Sevilla to the fourth position in the La Liga table securing a Champions League spot next season.
Following his performances at the backline, Kounde has been a hot target in this summer transfer market, with five clubs interested in him. However, no club has officially tabled an offer to sign the center-back. But, as per recent reports Manchester United have unofficially offered €45 million to Sevilla for landing Kounde next season.
Manchester United offers just €45 million to Sevilla for signing Kounde
Manchester United went trophyless last season after losing to Villareal in the Europa League final and finished second in the Premier League table. Following this horrific performance, the blame has been given to the defenders.
United lacked in good options who they can pair with Harry Maguire in the center-back position. Due to which they went to concede silly goals in most of the matches. And following this situation at the backline, United have prioritized to sign a center-back this summer who can be paired with Maguire.
The Red Devils have listed four options of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Jules Kounde, and Pau Torres for a transfer. Among these four options, they have marked Kounde as the most important one to sign this summer. According to the latest reports, Manchester United held informal talks with Sevilla for Kounde.
Duncan Castles, who revealed this rumor, said Manchester United offered €45 million to Sevilla for the center-back. But the Spanish side rejected the offer as they have already cleared about wanting €80 million to sell Kounde.
There is no way Sevilla will sell the youngster at such a low price, while there are two reasons to justify that. Firstly, Kounde is a hot target this summer following his impressive performance for the last two seasons. Secondly, Kounde has a clause in his deal that was entered by Bordeaux when they sold him to Sevilla. The clause entitles the French side to 30% of the transfer money if Sevilla sells Kounde to another club. So, let’s see if any club is able to pay that big amount or Kounde stays at Sevilla next season.
