Manchester United vs Wolves: Preview and Predicted Line-ups

Manchester United host Wolves at Old Trafford in their Gameweek 16 fixture. A win at home would see The Red Devils move to 2nd position just behind arch-rivals Liverpool with a game in hand.

Manchester United dropped points away from home for the first time in 11 games. Now, after a 2-2 draw away at Leicester they would want to capitalize on their game in hand advantage.

Wolves have been in poor form as of late. However, they always show up against Manchester United like it’s their cup final. They have won only 1 of their last 5 matches. Nuno Espirito Santo would like to take advantage of Manchester United’ poor home form.

Last time Manchester United hosted Wolves at home in the Premier League, a certain Portuguese midfielder started his first game. Bruno also bagged his first Man of the Match for The Red Devils. First of many.

Last 5 fixtures between Manchester United and Wolves has seen 3 draws and a win for each club. With only 6 combined goals scored, it is evident that both clubs find it difficult to break each other down.

Manchester United, however, can win this match with ease if they put away all their chances. Last match, they struggled to score from big chances and in the end, it came back to haunt them. They will definitely try to improve that part of their game.

Wolves are in a pickle as well. They have lost their main man up-top after Raul Jimenez was stretchered off following a head-on collision with David Luiz against Arsenal. Spanish winger Adama Traore is in danger of going the whole calendar year without a goal as well. However, Manchester United’ defensive stats will help them in staying confident.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to do a bit of thinking. Victor Lindelof had to be substituted at half time against The Foxes last week after a back injury. Marcus Rashford was also playing through a shoulder injury, so it is yet to be seen if he is fully fit or not. There has been no development on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’ injury either.

With Manchester United‘ starters injured, it is time for Axel Tuanzebe to shine. And considering Edinson Cavani’ current form, he will be given a run-in as well.

Nuno Espirito Santo also has his starters out before the game. Defender Fernando Marcal looked a bit iffy at the end of their match against Tottenham Hotspur. Raul Jimenez and Jonny Otto are definitely out of consideration as well.

Prediction: Manchester United 2 – 1 Wolves

Considering the past fixtures between these two clubs, it is hard to see it being a high scoring fixture. Manchester United’ defensive record makes it hard to see them keeping a clean sheet. However, Wolves are missing their key players as well.
