Marcelo still eyeing European Football

Brazil legend Marcelo bid farewell to his Real Madrid career last season. The defender captained Real Madrid to a European double last season. He becomes one of the only few players that have won the UCL 5 times. Marcelo was one of the core strengths of the Real Madrid success era. But age catches up to everyone and the Brazilian did not want to be a liability for his squad. Leaving seemed to be the best option as he did not renew his contract.

It was a journey of 15 incredible years at Real Madrid. At 34, Marcelo’s next destination was uncertain and is still not decided yet. He was expected to move to the MLS or any other Minor league for big wages. But reportedly, Marcelo still feels he has a lot to offer on the highest level. He wants to play European football and is not considering a move out of Europe as per current reports. The defender has turned down MLS or Qatari moves this summer.

But as such no European top clubs have offered for Marcelo. And this has tempted him to retire rather than play outside Europe. The Brazilian is looking to focus on his entrepreneurship projects. He owns 2 small clubs: Azuriz in Brazil and Mafra in Portugal. Marcelo wants to make these globally famous and is expected to focus on their success. Unless a top club offers for him, Marcelo will most likely consider retirement. He also wishes to return to Madrid in the future for a different role.

Marcelo, to reunite with Ronaldo?

What a fairytale ending this would be! Two best friends reuniting at a club will not get better than this. Marcelo and Ronaldo will surely be hoping for something like this. But it would be much more difficult with Eric Ten Hag at the helm. The coach does not see 34-year-old Marcelo as a valuable asset and feels that it would be a waste getting him.

Manchester United has excess deadwood present at the club at the moment. They will not fancy singing to someone like Marcelo for high wages. The team needs young hungry players who suit the Ten Hag style. So a reunion with Ronaldo is not something that seems possible. It looks like we have seen the last of the brilliant Brazilian on the pitch.
