Marco Reus returns to training as Borussia Dortmund gets ready for the second half of the season

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund has fallen behind other competitors in Bundesliga this season. The German giants are placed 6th in the table with 25 points after 15 games. The club started the season well but has struggled to perform consistently this season. After an impressive summer transfer window, everyone believed that Borussia Dortmund can challenge for the title this season.

However, Bayern Munich have again dominated the German football landscape. Meanwhile, SC Freiburg has been excellent to keep up with the Bavarians, but Borussia Dortmund has disappointed again. Before the FIFA World Cup, Borussia Dortmund were struggling with injuries.

However, in a major boost for the club, Marco Reus has returned to training ahead of the restart. The German international suffered an ankle injury just before the FIFA World Cup which ruled him out of the tournament. The German national team had a forgettable experience in Qatar and will hope to put that behind them quickly.

Borussia Dortmund needs a European run to boost their morale

Since 2013, Die Schwarzgelben have not made a mark in the UEFA Champions League. The club has merely become a club that qualifies for the group stages and gets knocked out. They haven’t been convincing in Europe for a long time. However, it is often seen that a club can turn around fortunes domestically as well if they put together a cup run.

Borussia Dortmund have the perfect opportunity this year as they have drawn struggling Chelsea in the Round of 16. The Blues have not been in the best of form and have been underwhelming. They sit in 10th place and have an inexperienced manager at the helm.

It is not a difficult draw for Borussia Dortmund due to the form of Chelsea and they should take advantage of it. The form could resonate with domestic results and bring some much-needed joy. The club needs to find consistency if they want to get closer to the reigning champions from Munich!!
