Arsenal finished the 2024/24 season on the second position in the Premier League. The Gunners were the best team in the league when it came to defence. They conceded less goals than anyone else in the league. However they scored 5 goals less than Manchester City. As a result, they fell short to win the title by only 2 points on the final day of the season. Their strikers were very poor throughout the whole season. Gabriel Jesus only scored 4 league goals whereas Eddie Nketiah scored only 5 goals. Nketiah is now linked with a move away from Arsenal. Olympique Marseille are interested to sign Nketiah and have even submitted a bid to Gunners.
Arsenal are ready to sell Eddie Nketiah. Nketiah is their academy player and will earn them pure profit. He joined Gunners in 2015 from Chelsea. Ever since he has played 168 matches for Arsenal and has scored 38 goals. However he has not been the regular starter. Nketiah has been used as a backup striker by Mikel Arteta in recent years. He is now ready to leave the club as he wants more playing time. In addition, he had very poor season last term. Despite playing 37 matches, Nketiah only scored six goals along with assisting three goals.
Nketiah linked with a move to Marseille
David Ornstein reported recently that Olympique Marseille have improve their initial bid. He said that they are prepared to pay around €20 million for Nketiah. Marseille are making big moves in the market ever since the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi. They have already signed Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. Now they are focused to sign another Premier League star from Arsenal.
French outlet L’Equipe have reported that Marseille have already agreed personal terms with the striker. The report further states that Marseille are prepared to sign Eddie on a loan move with an mandatory buy option next season worth around €20 million. However, despite the strong offers from Marseille, Gunners are not prepared to sell Nketiah for less than their demanded price.
What are Arsenal demanding
Arsenal want around £30 million for Eddie Nketiah which is way higher than Marseille’s bid of £17 million. Gunners are not willing to negotiate on this price. It is clear that Nketiah will not be the regulat starter next season at Arsenal. In addition, Gunners pay him around £100,000 per week after signing a new five year in 2022. However, Gunners are still unwilling to sell him if they don’t receive £30 million.
Arsenal are looking to sign a new striker this transfer window. They are linked heavily with Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres has a £84 million release clause in his current contract. He scored 43 goals along with assisting 14 more in 50 matches for Sporting. Considering his great form, Sporting are unwilling to negotiate for a price less than his release clause. Hence, Gunners want to increase their profits so that they can trigger his release clause.
Nketiah is not the only one linked with a move away from Arsenal. Emile Smith Rowe is very close to join Fulham. Gunners will earn around £34 million from his sale. In addition, Reiss Nelson can also move away from the club. These sales will be enough to help Gunners in triggering the release clause of Gyokeres.
Marseille linked with another Premier League star
Along with Nketiah, Marseille want to sign another Premier League star this summer. They are interested to sign Andreas Pereira from Fulham. They will face competition from the Serie A giants Juventus. If they manage to secure Pereira’s signature, they will reunite him with his former Manchester United teammate Mason Greenwood.
