Martin Braithwaite is Barcelona’s richest player

Danish footballer Martin Braithwaite‘s tenure at Barcelona seems to be over. The 29-year-old is not at all in Xavi’s plans for the future and it won’t be long when Barca receives an offer and look to offload him. The Dane has struggled a lot to fill in Luis Suarez’s boots and so far has not at all impressed the Catalans.

His signing was an emergency one by then-President Bartomeu after it was revealed that Ousmane Dembele would be out for the whole season. With Griezmann not fitting in and no squad depth in attack, Braithwaite came in from Leganes and was put in the lineup in some games. He did impress a little with the speed burst he had but apart from that, he was deemed as another flop signing by the club.

From Quique Setien to Ronald Koeman, no coach had a clear idea of how he fitted in at the club and why was he signed in the first place. Even under new coach Xavi, Luuk De Jong got the nod as the backup striker with Braithwaite getting minimal game time. It seems as though this season, it is pretty much confirmed that he would be leaving, with the club signing new attackers in this window.

But the tables seemed to have turned as Braithwaite now wants to stay and fight for a spot with the likes of Aubameyang and potentially Robert Lewandowski. The Dane is earning a pretty high wage at the club and would not be willing to leave as no other club would be willing to pay such high wages to him. Not only this, the striker is a billionaire and has so many businesses around Spain, so he is not keen on a move away from Camp Nou this summer.

Barca Will Be Looking To Offload Braithwaite This Summer

Barca’s financial struggles are no surprise to anyone as the Catalans are still looking to cut down their wage structure. Players like Braithwaite are earning so much that it does not make sense to keep them if they are not in the Coach’s plans. Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha , Kounde, and many others are on the radar and the deadwood of the club needs to be removed if these players are to be signed.

WC 2022 is not too far away and Braithwaite will be looking for game time to get into some flow for the tournament as Denmark looks to surprise the big guns. Thus Braithwaite might have no other choice than to leave in order to be selected for the WC squad. The next few days of the transfer window are going to be decisive.
