Manchester United transfer update as Mason Greenwood is now linked with an unexpected Premier League return.
Mason Greenwood Wants to Return to England After Big Contract at Marseille
According to reports, Mason Greenwood is receiving new interest from Premier League clubs. This comes following his very strong season in Ligue 1 with Marseille.
The 23-year old left Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for £26.6 million. At the time, he scored 19 goals in 34 match, second only to Ousmane Dembele.
Although, the youngster is in a good spot on the pitch, his time in France hasn’t been plain sailing. He has been facing criticism from fans about his work rate. Recently, there have been worries from manager Roberto De Zerbi that led to some doubt about his future at Marseille.
At the same time, clubs from Saudi Arabia, Spain and Italy are keen on Greenwood. But, sources close to the player claim he’s keen on a return to the north of England. Reports suggest at least two English clubs are seriously considering a summer move.
Man Utd Could Profit As Transfer Value Rises
Greenwood’s permanent departure from Manchester Utd seemed final. Although, a shock return to English football could indirectly benefit the Red Devils. As part of his transfer deal to Marseille, Utd included a 50% sell-on clause. This means the club stands to earn big if Marseille cash in on the forward. Especially when clubs like PSG spend £60 million or more.
If such a deal happens, Utd could pocket an extra £17 million. Greenwood’s priority right now is to finish off the season strong. But, the growing interest from Premier League sides has made his return to English football a hot topic.
The main question now is whether any club will take the gamble. And also, if the fans will accept his return to the domestic stage.
