arsenal

Arsenal is back in the Premier League as they will be hosting Southampton this Saturday. It will be their last game before the beginning of the October international break. So, both of the teams would like to end the week on a high note.

The Gunners have started the 2024-25 campaign on a high note. They are currently at third position with 14 points (4 wins, 2 draws) in their name. Both City and Arsenal are 1 point behind the table toppers Liverpool. However, both of them are the only two teams who are still unbeaten in the Premier League so far. So, one thing is sure that the Gunners will play their best football in order to recover the small margin.

On the other hand, Southampton started their new season in the worst way possible. In 6 league games the Saints have only managed to secure 1 point which came against Ipswich Town on matchday 5. Their only victory of the season came against Everton through a penalty shoot-out in the third round of Carabao cup.

Arsenal recent form

Arsenal is not yet to be defeated in all competitions so far this season. They have been fighting very hard since the start. Despite of all the injury problems the Gunners have found a way through. And now when all the players are recovering well, they will be seeing the light of hope soon. Arteta’s dream of Premier League can come true this year if the Gunners continue to play this type of football.

Arsenal’s most latest victory came against Paris Saint-Germain in a 2-0 score line in the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners literally exposed Luis Enrique’s tactics as it seemed PSG were never in the game. Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka made the difference.

And in league campaign Arsenal’s recent success came against Leicester City. After a good first half from the Gunners, the Foxes almost completed a ‘remontada’ in the second half with the individual brilliance from James Justin who equalized in the 63rd minute. But a deflected shot from Trossard at the added time (90+4) found the net of Jordan Pickford which sealed the Gunners three points. Later on, Havertz scored a late 99th minute goal to closed the game.

Ramsdale returns to the Emirates

This fixture will be emotional for some fans and former Gunner Aaron Ramsdale. As the 26-year-old goalkeeper will return to the home ground of his previous club. Ramsdale was loved very much by the Gunners. But the rise of David Raya made him the second choice gaolie for them. Which eventually led him to leave the club.

He joined the Saints on a four year deal for a fee of £25million earlier this summer. But Ramsdale is yet to find his form since then. He has conceded the third most goals (12) in the league so far. So, he will like to find his form asap to perform at the top level again. We will be hoping a for a warm welcome for Ramsdale from the Arsenal fans, who will be there at the ground this Saturday.

Arsenal predicted lineup

Arteta can rest one of his most dependable commander Bukayo Saka this weekend to manage the work overload. This decision will give Raheem Sterling his first ever Premier League start for the Gunners. Moreover, we can also see the use of new signing Mikel Merino, who just returned from his shoulder injury. He got his first ever appearance as an Arsenal player last Tuesday against PSG. However, the chance of a full time debut is very slim.

Arsenal possible lineup against Southampton-

David Raya(GK); Ben White(RB), William Saliba(CB), Gabriel Magalhaes(CB), Jakub Kiwior(LB); Declan Rice(CMF), Thomas Partey(DMF), Leandro Trossard(CMF); Raheem Sterling(RW), Gabriel Martinelli(LW), Kai Havertz(ST)
