SC East Bengal will take on Jamshedpur FC in the 3rd game of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 season on Sunday, November 21. The match is set to take place at Tilak Maidan, Vasco. In the last term, either side was left disappointed and will look to redeem themselves.
In the 2020/21 season, Jamshedpur FC missed the semifinals by a narrow margin. Nonetheless, they are eager to up their game by holding on to a crucial cog, boss Owen Coyle.
On the flip side, SC East Bengal made quite a late entry last campaign. Finishing in 9th, they too will be eager to put past behind them. EB fans will be buzzing with excitement to see their team reformed under the new gaffer Manolo Diaz. The Spaniard has had a favourable impact since taking over from Robbie Fowler.
Grabbing all 3 points on opening day is any team’s goal. It acts as a warning sign to contenders. A torrid season saw SC East Bengal take 9th in the league table and they will be eager to return to winning ways.
A flawless pre-season in which they won all their games should give them the boost they need. All of it now rests on Diaz and his staff’s shoulders to deliver to the field the right mix of players for them to get a positive result on the day.
In for a second successive season as boss, Owen Coyle brought in players that suited his playstyle. Possessing a good mix of players, Jamshedpur FC will find it necessary to put their best foot forward in a game of this sort.
Players to Watch
Amir Dervisevic (SC East Bengal)
With talent as the Slovenian’s, he could be pivotal in Sunday’s tie. The midfielder is adept at playing an attacking role and can also sit back deep and control play from a defensive position. Going forward, the 29-year-old can be crucial in creating chances for his team.
With an irregular balance between the number of wingers and creative playmakers, Dervisevic looks to be their best bet in this position. Undoubtedly, the vastly experienced European will look to lead from the midfield and get involved as much as possible.
Nerijus Valskis (Jamshedpur FC)
Nerijus Valskis has already established himself as a goal machine. His performances 2 seasons ago that helped Chennaiyin FC reach the final is proof. The duo of Valskis-Coyle reunited could imply big problems for East Bengal if they fail to mark the Lithuanian.
The striker’s prowess in the air sets him apart. With wingers like Boris and Doungel whipping in balls, the forward has enough to work with to find the net. Sunday’s game might be the start of another dazzling campaign for the player.
A new look East Bengal side will face Coyle’s Jamshedpur who are eager to begin the campaign after dropping out on play-off positions by just four points the last term. To begin with, gaffer Robbie Fowler has been replaced, Manolo Diaz.
Goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya joins from ATK Mohun Bagan and will wear the armband. With his ability, he could be a solution to the defensive woes of East Bengal. Bhattacharya’s presence should ensure a close competition here with either side perhaps choosing a safer approach offensively.
All said and done, look forward to a tight affair and below 2.5 goals netted across the 90 minutes.
