Arsenal and Newcastle want to derail Manchester United’s move for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha.
United in Pole Position for Matheus Cunha, But Competition Heats Up
Manchester United is still in pole position to sign Matheus Cunha, edging out their English rivals Arsenal, but the Old Trafford club is already talking about Cunha with his agents.
The Wolves forward has already hit 31 goals in the last two seasons. He is valued at £62.5 million from a release clause in his contract. Although, he also extended his deal in January. But, he did so with an understanding that Wolves will not block a summer move.
Utd will be playing Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League. As they are also hoping to be playing Champions League football next season. The Brazilian striker seems to be impressed with Utd’s sporting project under new manager Ruben Amorim. So far, United have had a shaky season in the PL.
Arsenal To Held Talks as Gunners Join the Race
Arsenal are now in talks with Cunha’s camp. They want to arrange a meeting regarding a possible move to the Emirates. Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta wants more attacking options after having exited the Champions League semi-finals. They are looking for a top-2 Premier League finish this term.
The Gunners are keeping tabs on the forward since the winter window in January. They could make a serious move if the player shows interest.
With 17 goals and six assists this season, he is getting plenty of attention from clubs in England. The list also includes Newcastle United, who also see him as a key summer target. The Magpies’ recent Carabao Cup win and UCL push makes them an decent option too.
Cunha will likely make a call on his PL switch after Wolves finish their season in June.
