Who do you think would succeed Lionel Messi at Barcelona! In our mind, it is Memphis Depay. The Argentine left Camp Nou this summer leaving behind a huge gap to fill which would take some time. But the work has started after seeing Memphis Depay roar in the Barcelona shirt this season.
It is true that Depay is nothing in front of Messi, but the lad has some extreme abilities to lead the team from upfront. Since his joining the Dutchman has scored three goals in the pre-season matches. While he assisted Gerard Pique in Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Real Sociedad.
After establishing himself as a ruthless forward with PSV Eindhoven, Depay opted for a new challenge in England. The Dutchman made a €25 million move to Manchester United in 2015 hoping to continue his form at the biggest stage. But Depay’s plan failed miserably with only 7 goals in 53 appearances over the two years. However, the Dutchman didn’t give up and transferred to Olympique Lyonnais in 2017 to revive his career.
Depay grabbed the opportunity with his two hands as he established one of the best forwards in the Ligue 1. The 27-year-old scored 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 appearances for Lyon over the three years stay. And now Depay joining Barcelona he will look forward to taking his name in the list of best forwards in La Liga.
Following his form, over the past three seasons, Depay is a lethal weapon for Koeman alongside Fati and Griezmann. If not to the level of Messi, Depay surely makes Barcelona a title contender for the La Liga and Champions League. If used correctly he could do wonders in front of the goals. So, Barcelona fans keep your hopes high on Memphis Depay.
