Memphis Depay to snub Barcelona move for AS Roma?

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY

Memphis Depay has changed his mind and turned to AS Roma for this summer, though he has long been announced as the first recruit of Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona. However, everything is now in question because the future of the Barcelona coach is no longer secure. Depay will leave Olympique Lyonnais on a free transfer at the end of the season. Memphis Depay played this Sunday, the last of his 178 matches with Lyon.

Tiago Pinto is looking for a long-term replacement for Edin Dzeko. Depay is the main candidate because he is a free agent. The young player has really revealed himself as a very good goal scorer this year. He scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 Ligue 1 games during the 2020/21 season. The striker is now looking for a new challenge. AS Roma will be looking for reinforcements for the rebuild of the team under Jose Mourinho.

“When I arrived here, I was only 23 years old: I changed, I grew up, here I became a man. I have many memories, this is my home. To think that Sunday will be my last game here makes me sad, but my family and friends will always be with me.”

Memphis Depay has many suitors besides AS Roma:

The Dutchman would like a salary close to €650,000 per month. He also wants a contract of three years or more with AS Roma, and a place in the starting XI. Given his qualities, the young player really wants to lead his future team.

“I want to show my qualities in the biggest club possible, in the biggest league possible. I’m ready to make a move. Barcelona? I know their interest, but there are other clubs too. “

New AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho coached Depay when they were both at Manchester United in 2017. Depay is not alone in the Italian capital’s sights. Three important transfers are expected this summer. In particular, a goalkeeper is hoped for and one name stands out, that of Juan Musso. Roma also has Andrea Belotti, who has scored 12 goals in Seria A this season on their list of targets if they fail to sign Depay.

Depay will have to choose by the end of the season. If Ronald Koeman leaves, his chances of heading to Camp Nou will be less.
