Manchester United are looking for a new left back in this transfer market. Luke Shaw has been the club’s first choice left back but was injured for majority of 2023/24 season. The English international made only 15 appearances across all competitions for Red Devils. On the other hand, Tyrell Malacia who joined United in 2022 missed the whole 2023/24 season. This situation forced Erik Ten Hag to use Diogo Dalot as a left back. However its not the favorable position of Portuguese international. Along with Dalot, Sofyan Amrabat, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also played as left backs on certain occasions. However the club can’t rely on those for another season and hence have made a priority to sign a left back this summer. United have been linked with Miguel Gutierrez and Ferdi Kadioglu.
Ferdi Kadioglu has impressed everyone with his performances in Euro 2024 for Turkey national team. The Turkish international plays for Fenerbahce who have welcomed their new coach Jose Mourinho. Mourinho wants Kadioglu to stay in Turkey. The portugese manager has a great influence and may convince Kadioglu to stay. However, the Turkish international will be at the peak of his game and will look to play at a higher stage. Along with United, Arsenal are also interested in achieving the services of Kadioglu.
On the other hand, Miguel Gutierrez has a great 2023/24 season with Girona. The 22 year old fullback helped Girona in achieving Champions League football. Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in signing him this summer. However it may prove difficult for Premier League side to achieve his signature.
Gutierrez opens up about his future
Gutierrez told Mundo Deportivo that he has a contract with Girona as of today. The 22 year old fullback added that he is happy at the club and his agents will inform him if anything comes up.
“We have to focus on the day to day and what I have to do now is concentrate on the national team and the Olympic Games, on bringing gold to Las Rozas” – Gutierrez when asked about his future.
Speaking about Madrid’s buy back option Gutierrez said that its true and it depends on Real Madrid. In addition he said that he has always been a Real Madrid fan and its his pleasure to have his name mentioned with the club.
Which club will Miguel Gutierrez join next
From his words it seems like the Spanish fullback will prefer to join Real Madrid over Manchester United. United will have to pay £30 million to Girona if they want to sign Gutierrez. On the other hand, Madrid will require only £7 million due to their buy back option.
Real Madrid have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia available at the left back position. In addition, Los Blancos are linked with Bayern Munich’s star Alphonso Davies. Hence a lot will depend on the arrival of Canadian international. However, there is another possibility that Madrid bring Gutierrez back at £7 million and sell him to United for £30 million.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted that United are looking for a young, talented, good and important left back. Gutierrez possesses all of these attributes. The 22 year old fullback made 35 La Liga appearances and scored 2 goals along with providing 7 assists in 2023/24 season. He will be an important addition to Erik Ten Hag’s side. However he will have to miss Champions League football next season if he decides to join United.

Miguel Gutierrez joined Real Madrid academy in 2011. In 2017, Jose Mourinho who was Man United manager at that time wanted to sign Gutierrez. Gutierrez was only 16 years old at that time. However the fullback rejected the move as he wanted to stay in Spain. Later, Gutierrez continued to impress with his performances and was included in Madrid’s first team by Zinedine Zidane in 2019. In 2021, Gutierrez made his professional debut for Real Madrid.
