Arsenal faced a narrow 1-0 defeat against Inter Milan last night. Gunners dominated the whole game and had better stats than the hosts but still had to leave without a point. The game should help Mikel Arteta in making a decision to finally move on from Leandro Trossard.
Inter Milan had only one shot on target which came from spot kick. They had a penalty awarded which was criticized by many including Arteta himself. But, it will not change a fact that Gunners lacked a spark in attack.
We also have to give credit to Inter for their amazing defensive display. Yes, they were very hard to penetrate and they had also shown it aginst Man City this season. But, some Arsenal players were below average and Leandro Trossard was on of them.
Mikel Arteta should now replace Leandro Trossard
Trossard has now been able to start games since Odegaard’s injury. But, he has failed to impress and this has costed Gunners. Last night has been the fresh example where Trossard lost the ball eight times, made only two key passes and had zero shots on target.
It is hard to fill in the shoes of someone like Odegaard but Trossard has been below than average. He has been rated at €35 million by Transfermarkt but is not reaching those limits at the moment.
Trossard has offers from Saudi clubs and it now feels like Gunners should listen to them. His performances have also been a wakeup call for Arteta to sign a new striker very soon who is more consistent.
If Gunners do buy a striker, they can replace Trossard with Kai Havertz. Havertz has been playing as a striker but that is not his preferred position. Gunners have also been reported recently to monitor Mohammed Kudus as a potential replacement for Leandro Trossard.
If we look at the options Gunners have at the moment to replace Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri is the best solution. He is still very young but has already shown is quality and has potential to start the games too. Mikel Arteta surely has to take some bold decisions if he wants to challenge for titles.
