Arsenal were able to take the lead against Manchester City but were unable to hold it. The game ended in a draw as Gunners had to play the whole second half with 10 men. Their attacker Leandro Trossard got sent off in the first half which has made Mikel Arteta question the refree’s call.
Erling Halland scored in the 9th minute giving City the lead. But Gunners showed excellent spirit and were able to turn things around. They took the lead in the 1st minute of additional time in first half. But, later in the 8th minute of additional time, Leandro Trossard was sent off.
Trossard was already on a yellow due to his foul on Savinho. He then fouled Bernardo Silva and kicked the ball away. Refree showed him his second yellow card and this reduced Gunners to 10 men.
Mikel Arteta unhappy with the refree’s decision
Arsenal boss is very unhappy with the decision and made some bold statements. Firstly, he said that Gunners were more efficient than City but two incidents had a very different outcome. He added that this forced them play a game which no one wants to watch.
Later Arteta said that his job is to not come here and judge what happens. He added that his job is to survive in the most difficult environement in football for 55 minutes. Arteta was clearly referring to the long second half he had to manage Arsenal with only 10 men on field.
“It is already the second time it has happened in five games, which is really really worrying if we want to see the best Premier League. Anyone that has played football or any sport can see it’s less than a second. Less than a second. The previous one (Doku’s incident) is more than a second. That’s it, simple” – Mikel Arteta about Trossard getting sent off.
Football Legends about the red card
Arteta has the backing of Peter Schmeichel who said that it was the biggest game of the Premier League. He added that the refree gave soft yellow cards. He also made bold statements about Michel Oliver and said that Oliver wants himself in the spotlight and hence ruined the game.
However, two other football legends said opposite to that of Mikel Arteta. Roy Keane and Paul Merson shared their thoughts on Sky Sports. Roy Keane said that it was the height of stupidity from Leandro Trossard. As per him, it was a clear red card and Trossard brought it upon himself.
Paul Merson said that Trossard knew what he was doing. As per him, the player heard the whistle and kicked the ball with laces. There are mixed reactions expected from everyone but as of now both teams shared one point and City are still on the top of the table.
