AC Milan are one of the best clubs in Italy at the moment. The Italians look set to defend their Serie A title. The squad looks a lot more complete, with the additions that they have brought in the summer. Milan beat their capital rivals last season by 3 points. Paolo Maldini played a big hand in bolstering this Milan side to take the next step in Europe. The legendary defender feels that Milan have to step up and make more signings if they want to retain the Serie A title. Because of this, the Italian Champions looked to find more solutions even on the deadline day of the window.
The club has brought in key players like Divock Origi, De Ketelaere, and Malick Thiaw. But it is evident that only these signings will not be enough if Milan wants to retain the title. Moreover, they are also eyeing European success this season as the past ones were failures. Bakayoko was linked but will most probably end up joining OGC Nice. One signing that was needed is a right back and Sergino Dest from Barcelona has arrived. The Barcelona man joins Milan on a 1-year loan deal with an option to buy. This pretty much solves their right-back dilemma.
Fikayo Tomori also signed an extension with Milan. So did Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The squad looks very balanced and also marks back-to-back seasons of playing UCL football. But as good as the squad feels, it does not feel elite to compete in the UCL. Milan have been poor in their UCL group beaten by Chelsea away and at home. Chelsea managed to keep a clean sheet in both games against the Italian Champions. This says a lot about what Milan needs in order to compete with the best sides in Europe.
Milan to make Leao contract decision
One of the players that Milan have no intention of selling is Rafael Leao. The Portuguese international is one of the best wingers in world football at the moment. He has absolutely taken Serie A by storm and played a big part in their title conquest last season. Paolo Maldini has confirmed various times that Milan is the best place for Leao and will continue to be.
But reports say now things are looking to take a turn. Leao has agreed to a contract extension but with a salary of €7 million. Milan are reportedly trying to meet these demands but it is not sure that they would pay such an amount. If that does not happen, they will wait for a huge summer transfer offer for Leao that would bring funds to the club.
