Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria said he ‘prefers a transfer’ over signing a new deal.
Arsenal and Manchester City have emerged as suitors for the 24-year-old. Gladbach are grappling with the idea of the midfielder moving on as he does not want a new deal. Therefore, they might be open for a possible sale.
Manchester City want to freshen up the squad this summer. Pep Guardiola views Zakaria as a potential long-term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.
Denis Zakaria moved up the ladder at Servette, originally as a box-to-box midfielder. Moving to BSC Young Boys he adapted into more of a holding midfielder.
His stunning displays were eye-catching. Borussia Monchengladbach then went on to sign Zakaria where he was assigned an equivalent role. Off late he has been playing further up the pitch than normal and his expertise on the ball has heightened immensely.
Zakaria is rapid, clocking in an impressive speed of 34.64 kmph at the club. He is a sturdy and powerful midfielder and could be fitting to the English playstyle. The Swiss international effectively stops attacks and is superb in defensive duels.
However, Zakaria suffered a concerning injury in the 2019/20 campaign and has not yet completely recovered from it. Though he did have a remarkable season, his numbers have taken a dip since his reinstatement. Coupled with a hefty fee, this could potentially deter Manchester City from bidding for him.
