Mourinho to reunite with Manchester United’ forgotten man in Roma

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero will have a chance to reunite with his former boss José Mourinho next season at AS Roma as reports are suggesting that the Portuguese boss is eager to bring him to the capital.

The Red Devils have treated their Argentine goalkeeper very poorly. They didn’t name him in the squad for any of the competitions and didn’t even sell him last summer.

Mourinho is an admirer of Romero since his time at Manchester United. He even said that Sergio Romero is a better goalkeeper than David De Gea. However, Romero has served as a second-choice goalkeeper for the Old Trafford outfit since his arrival in the Premier League.

Manchester United brought the 34-year-old goalkeeper for free in July 2015. His current contract with the club will end at the end of this season and he will leave for free.

Can Mourinho bring Manchester United man Romero to Roma?

According to The Telegraph, Roma are among the willing parties who want to land Sergio Romero in Serie A after his contract with Manchester United expires at the end of June.

Mourinho will replace Paulo Fonseca as the manager of Roma from next season. And the Roma board have promised the legendary manager to fulfil his transfer demands. And it will be a good fit for the Giallorossi to sign Romero.

Romero has made only 61 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United over six years. His majority of appearances in cup competitions and made only seven Premier League starts.

The Argentine international made 96 appearances for his national side since making his debut in 2009 against Paraguay in FIFA World Cup qualifier.

If Roma can sign Manchester United’s forgotten man for free, it will be a good deal for both parties. As Romero will be able to play first-team football at last at the twilight of his career. A goalkeeper of his quality should not be out of the footballing action and Roma will benefit hugely from his experience.
