AS Roma have reportedly started talks with Arsenal’s midfielder Granit Xhaka for a possible summer move.
The Switzerland international was linked for a potential move away from the Emirates Stadium in 2020. After being accused of signaling and shouting towards the fans who booed him for a poor performance against Crystal Palace. And the consequence of that the midfielder was stripped off from the captaincy.
Xhaka has made 220 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners since making the move from Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2016 for €45 million, scoring 13 goals in that process including some world-class long rangers.
The 28-year-old midfielder has a contract with the North London club until June 2023. And if someone approaches Arsenal for Xhaka then they might ask a fee of around €25 million this summer.
Can Roma sign Xhaka from Arsenal this summer?
According to Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho is a fan of the North London midfielder. And he praised the midfielder two years ago as a leader. Currently, the Portuguese manager is demanding the Roma hierarchy to deliver the signature of Xhaka for the next season.
However, the report is saying that Giallorossi does not want to meet the €25 million asking price for the midfielder. They want to pay around €12 million upfront and the rest will be paid by bonuses.
The legendary Portuguese manager has asked for a few new faces in the squad. And Roma are already in the market to fulfill the demands of Mourinho.
However, The previous rumors claimed that Mourinho wants to reunite with Nemanja Matic in Roma. And now Sky is claiming that the new Roma manager is asking for Xhaka.
Nevertheless, if Roma can sign Xhaka this summer then that will be a perfect move for all three parties. Roma will get an experienced player. Xhaka will get a chance to play in Serie A which could be a perfect league to play for his lack of athleticism. And Arsenal will get the transfer fee that they can use to invest in different areas.
If all the transfer talks about Roma are true and they can deliver them to Mourinho. Then we will have to keep an eye on Roma as well for next season or they might even become the Champion of Serie A next season.
