Moussa Niakhate is on the radar of West Ham

West Ham

West Ham United is looking to sign defender Moussa Niakhate from Mainz for a cut-price this summer. He has just 12 months left on his current contract. Newcastle United and Everton are also interested in the French defender who could be available for just £8million.

Moussa Niakhate and his Mainz career

Mainz signed Niakhate in 2018 and since then the defender has made 100 appearances for the club. Moreover, he also captains the Mainz side and is a proven leader. The 26- year old has attracted interest and is subject to a three-way transfer battle.

West Ham United, Newcastle United and Everton all are interested in the defender. Also, some German clubs want to keep him in Germany but he could move abroad for a new challenge. West Ham are looking for a cover of injured Ogbonna and they could make a move for the defender. Moreover, it is believed that West Ham manager David Moyes is also a big fan of Niakhate.

Newcastle United is also in the market for a new defender to partner Jamal Lascelles and Dan Burn. Niakhate, who is still 26 could prove a great signing for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle. Everton who are in the relegation battle are also looking for a new defender and can move for Niakhate.

The Mainz Captain is also capable of leading the backline and sustain the defence. West Ham United are in pole position to sign him as he would be tempted to play in Europe next season. West Ham is currently 6th in the table and is confident of securing a place in Europe next season.

Newcastle United could also rope in the defender by providing him with huge wages. Everton’s chances are grim with the team battling for Premier League Survival.

It is sure that the defender won’t play for Mainz for a long time. And he could be on the move in the summer.
