About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

East Bengal have brought back Mridul Banerjee this time as their Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. The experienced coach has been a part of many other prominent I-League and Indian Super League sides. He will assist newly appointed manager Manuel Diaz as East Bengal prepare to give a better performance this season.

He was the manager of East Bengal while the Red & Gold Brigade played in the I-League. However, his stint lasted for a solitary day as he sprained his ankle in his very first session. Since Cinderella’s glass slippers pierced him on the very first day, he was forced to quit almost immediately.

In continuation to the terrible reference at the famed fable, his second arrival have the fans very excited, much like the Cinderella movie. However, with the way East Bengal have prepared ahead of the upcoming season, there is a very small chance it will bomb like the movie.

Mohun Bagan appointed Karim Bencherifa after that and Mridul Banerjee became the Assistant Manger. He held the position for 44 games.

From there he went on to manage teams like Mohammeden Sporting, Indian FA and East Bengal. On May 21st 2018 he was appointed as Assistant Manager to Josep Gombau for the Delhi Dynamos. He played the role for a year, a run of 21 games.

Apart from that he has worked with the U-16 national squad, the U-19 national squad and the West Bengal state team. Back in his playing days he represented a couple of Premier Division clubs in Kolkata between 1975 and 1988.
