Liverpool remain in the race for €80m Forest defender Murillo this summer.
Reds still tracking Brazilian centre-back Murillo after failed January approach
Liverpool are reportedly keen on Nottingham Forest‘s Murillo. Fresh plans are being made ahead of the summer transfer window. The Reds had already shown interest in the Brazilian during the January window. But, talks failed to take off.
With the window about to open again, the player is still a target. The 22-year-old centre-back is worth around €80 million. And he has been eyed up by Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid as well.
Nevertheless, Forest’s position is strong. In addition, they are looking to extend the his current deal to 2030 as well.
Slot eyeing fresh legs to build on Premier League success
Murillo has been key in Forest’s great Premier League run. He has been vital for the club to get to top four position with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. He has got eyes from many of Europe’s top clubs after having a great campaign.
Forest will be hoping that Champions League qualification will make him stay on with the club. Also, they want him to sign a new deal.
However, for Liverpool, signing the centre-back makes perfect sense. Virgil van Dijk heading into the last years of his career. And Ibrahima Konaté is nearing the final year of his deal too. The Brazilian will be a young, consistent performer at Anfield. He will be a great fit into Arne Slot’s playing system and long-term plans.
Arsenal are also keeping an eye on both Murillo and Bournemouth’s star centre-back Dean Huijsen.
Meanwhile, Forest are still hopeful of tying Murillo down to a new deal this term. Although, Liverpool could come in hard to sign one of the most exciting and young defenders in the English Premier League.
