Mykhailo Mudryk a 90M flop? An analysis of his stats and future with Chelsea

Discussing the stats and future prospects of Chelsea’s 90 million pounds Eden Hazard replacement Mykhailo Mudryk.

Since Eden Hazard left for Real Madrid in 2019, Chelsea have been desperately trying to find a replacement. Their signings have all been in an attempt to fill the huge void left by the Belgian. First they bought in American Christian Pulisic, then Mason Mount attempted once and then came 90 million man Mykhailo Mudyrk from Shaktar. The fast and pacey winger who was a major target for Arteta at Arsenal but hijacked by rivals Chelsea. Despite the big money move he has struggled to live upto the billing.

MUDRYK’S TIME WITH CHELSEA

Mykhailo Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shaktar Donetsk in 2023 January for a reported fee of 89 million pounds. A fast pacey winger who normally plays in the right wing runs past defenders and provides crosses or goes on the score. He first came into the attention after his exploits with Shaktar in the UEFA Champions League. For the majority of the winter transfer wind Arsenal were the front runners to sign Mudryk. But Chelsea with their big bags of money courtesy of their wealthy American owners came in and hijacked the deal. The Ukranian even posted a story on Instagram supporting Arsenal before signing for Chelsea. The winger signed an eight and half year contract with the club and made his debut against Liverpool as a second half sustitute. He came on and made immediate impact and showed some glimpses of his talent. But that was it.

Will we see these sort of goals from Mudryk at Chelsea?

Mudryk has pace, has talent but is not able to display it for Chelsea. He struggled to make and impact on the pitch other than showing some glimpses. Mudryk at times became just a content for memers on social media. There might be multiple reasons for that, the natural pressure of the price tag, the physicality of the Premier League or the greatest of all pressures, filling into the shoes of Eden Hazard. The Belgian was a cult hero at Stamford Bridge. A wizard who and just wave his magic wand and turn thinsg around in a second. He was someone who can do wonders on the pitch. Eden used to carry Chelsea on his shoulders at times. Replacing such a player is a daunting task.

MYKHAILO MUDRYK STATS AND FUTURE

Now Mudryk is way past the vecation period. He has had his time to settle. But changing managers and changing game plans also would have impacted his development at the club. Still comparing to the first season stats of Eden Hazard, He is nowhere in the patch to succeed such a legendary player. Hazard scored 13 and assisted 21 goals in his first full season for Chelsea. While Mudryk have only scored 7 times in his whole 67 appearences for the club untill now. Stats taken from Transfermarkt.com. Considering the fact that, under the current Chelsea management time is time is not a luxury. They have way too many options within their squad who can replace him. Mudyrk should somehow come out of the shadow and start putting in impactful performances on pitch for Chelsea orelse the exit door might open soon enough for him.

Already they have the likes of Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku and Jadon Sancho as wingers in the squad. In addition to that two of the brightest future stars in Willian Estevao and Kendry Paez will be joining next season. Both are wizards on the ball. Even though Mudryk has a long term contract, Chelsea wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of him for a descent amount of money. Anyway it’s too early to tag someone as a flop but his vecation time has certainly over. He just has to start making some sort of impact on the pitch.
