Napoli enters Shaqiri race with Lazio

Napoli have joined fellow Italian side Lazio in the race for Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international recently told his club Liverpool his intention to leave this summer.

Lazio has been a long time admirer of Shaqiri and is heavily linked with him. Napoli is the latest side that has shown interest in the winger.

Shaqiri still has his contract with Liverpool till 2023. However, the Reds will be willing to sell especially after the player mentioned his intention to leave. Apart from Lazio and Napoli, other clubs like Sevilla and Villareal are monitoring his situation.

SHAQIRI THE TRANSFER TARGET FOR LAZIO AND NAPOLI

Both Napoli and Lazio have changed their manager and are looking to bring in new faces. Lazio has registered their interest in the player earlier and boss Maurizio Sarri is a big admirer. Shaqiri admitted that he was honoured by the interest from Lazio and said he would like to play with Sarri.

Napoli on the other hand joined the race after Shaqiri revealed that he wants a new challenge. Bringing in the experienced Swiss will be an excellent addition for new boss Luciano Spalletti. Shaqiri could be available for as low as €15m.

The Swiss international had an exciting Euro 2020 campaign with his nation as he leads them till the quarter-final. Shaqiri scored 3 goals and assisted once in the tournament, showcasing his abilities to the football audience. However, his luck with Liverpool has been bad as he was never able to claim his place in the starting eleven.

Shaqiri is a good finisher of the ball and likes to shoot from distance. He is an excellent passer of the ball and is known for providing excellent through and long balls. Meanwhile having played in Inter Milan for a brief period of time, the player does know about the league. One thing is for sure, the future of the Swiss winger looks to be away from Merseyside.
