Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is finally justifying his price tag

Sottil

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is finally showcasing his talent this season as he is displaying terrific performances in this early part of the season.

The 22-year-old joined the Azzurri from LOSC Lille last summer for a whopping €70 million. Many doubted the club’s decision to spend so much money on a player who hasn’t been able to break the world with his performances, scoring 13 goals and notching up four assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances.

The Nigerian had a similar season in Serie A last term, scoring 10 goals and assisting three times in 24 Serie A appearances. However, the forward has started the new season brilliantly under the new manager Luciano Spalletti. The Azzurri are currently sitting first in the league, with five wins in five games and they have scored four goals in the last two consecutive games.

Osimhen will be the key to the success of Napoli:

Osimhen is one of the catalysts of the success of Napoli so far this season as he has been a constant threat for the opposition defence for his athleticism and dynamism. The Nigerian’s performance against Leicester City in the Europa League opener was astonishing.

The Italian side were trailing by 2-0, but the forward dragged Napoli out of a certain defeat by scoring two late goals. The 22-year-old’s performance so far in this campaign is starting to show justification for the high price tag.

With the lack of depth Napoli have in their centre-forward department, Osimhen will have to remain fit throughout the season and keep on producing the same to have any possibility of winning the league title this season.

Juventus have started the season poorly and are already 10 points behind Napoli. So, if Spalletti’s side can produce consistency in their performance this season, then the Azzurri could mount a title challenge this term. However, it will not be easy as two Milan clubs are also in contention.
