Newcastle United have already completed four signings in this transfer market. Along with new comings the club has parted ways with two homegrown players. The Magpies are now interested in signing a Brazilian winger who has been key player for Barcelona in the past two years. Newcastle United in an attempt to sign Raphinha have already submitted a bid to Spanish side.
FC Barcelona have been under serious financial crisis. The club needs to sell the players first before signing new ones. Over the years, Barca have sold many of their homegrown players with Marc Guiu being the latest addition to the list. It is now reported that Joan Laporta has accepted Newcastle’s offer for the Brazilian winger. The Magpies have raised their bid of Raphinha to €60 million as they are keen to bring him to St. James Park. However, Raphinha doesn’t seem very interested to join the Premier League side.
Newcastle keen to sign Raphinha
Newcastle have already completed the signings of Lewis Hall, Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos. In addition, they have also completed registering the sale of Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest. The Magpies are showing no signs of slowing down as they have now turned their attention to Raphinha.
The rumours of Magpies signing Raphinha have accelerated. Newcastle have raised their bid to €60 million which has tempted Joan Laporta and Barcelona. The Spanish side is ready to sacrifice the Brazilian international.
Raphinha played an important role in Xavi’s Barcelona. However he doesn’t have the same role in Hansi Flick’s side and hence Barca have no problem in sacrificing him. However, Raphinha is not very interested in joining Newcastle as they will not play in Champions League next season. Raphinha’s requirements are Champions League football and team fighting for trophies if he is to leave Camp Nou this summer.
Raphinha’s career so far
Raphinha came into attention when he moved to Leeds United in 2020 from Rennes. Leeds United paid around £17 million for the winger offering him four year contract. In his first season with Leeds, Raphinha made 31 appearances of which 30 came in Premier League. He scored 6 goals along with providing 9 assists in those 30 appearances. In his second season he made 35 Premier League appearances and almost doubled his tally of goals. The Brazilian international scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists.
Raphinha’s superb display on the right flank caught attention of Spanish giants FC Barcelona. In July 2022, Raphinha became new Barcelona player for whom Barca paid around £55 million. Raphinha has made 87 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona and scored 20 goals along with providing 23 assists. In the 2023/24 season Raphinha was superb in Champions League. He played 7 Champions league matches for Barcelona. In those appearances, Raphinha found the back of the net three times along with providing two assists.
Newcastle target Raphinha recently had an amazing performance for Brazil against Columbia. The winger scored an amazing goal from direct free kick in 12th minute. Raphinha helped Brazil to reach the knockout stages of Copa America. He will face his Barca teammate Ronald Araujo who will be representing Uruguay in the quarter finals of Copa America.
