Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Kieran Trippier as their first buy after the takeover by their Saudi owners. The Magpies have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the Englishman. Trippier has been on the radar of Newcastle for quite a lot of times in the past. Now that the January transfer window is open, the PL outfit is ready to bring some new names into their side.

Kieran Trippier is all set to return to the Premier League from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, his 2-year stint at the club was successful as he was an important player for the Roji Blancos. He became a key figure for Diego Simeone’s side that won the La Liga for the first time since the 2013/14 season.

The 31-year-old played for Tottenham Hotspur from 2015-2019 and made 69 appearances at the White Hart Lane. His technicality helped Atletico Madrid to win important matches in La Liga. Trippier has also represented England during the 2018 FIFA World cup when they reached the semi-final. He also became a key figure for the Three Lions when they reached the final of the 2020 UEFA Euros. Reports have suggested that Newcastle are set to transform their side and trippier will be the first signing of their new era.

Atletico Madrid were hoping to keep the Englishman at the club for as long as possible. However, Trippier made his intentions clear to the Roji Blancos hierarchy about a return to his homeland. The English right-back will complete his medical by this week and he will sign a two-year deal with the Magpies. He will have an option to further extend his contract for another year once his current deal expires.

According to reports, Newcastle’s owners are hoping to sign at least 3 more players this month. The Magpies are struggling at the bottom three of the league table. They will play the remaining half of the season in an attempt to avoid relegations to sign more influential players during the summer transfer window. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has worked with trippier in 2012 during his days as the manager of Burnley.

Newcastle United have set an undesired record of their own in 2021. No other Premier League club have conceded more goals than Newcastle in a calendar year as they have registered 80 goals against them in 2021. The Magpies have also allowed more shots on target than any other PL team this season. They need some quality players in the back 4 if they want to concede less and remain in the top-flight this season.
