Newcastle United continue their persistent efforts to sign English defender Marc Guehi from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace.
The Magpies have been wanting to sign a defender since the start of the window and their efforts were mainly focused on one man Marc Guehi. The Englishman had a brilliant Euro campaign which has certainly fueled the interest in him. Various clubs have been interested in taking away Guehi from Selhurst Park. Whith the likes of Newcastle United, Liverpool, Machester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal showing interest at some point during this window. But Newcastle have been putting in persistent efforts to land the 24 year old defender.
MARC GUEHI TIME IN ENGLAND
Marc Guehi is a Chelsea academy graduate who currently plays for Crystal Palace team. Guehi joined Chelsea at a young age and most of his time at club was about develping through the youth teams. During his youth team days Guehi was highly regarded for his defensive skillset. Some of which he is widely explicit whne he is playing for Palace and England.
Guehi made his switch to Selhurst Park in 2021 for a fee of 18 million pounds. From then on he developed into one of the best centre halfs in Premier league. He made over 100 appearences for Palace scoring 3 goals and transformed himself into a leader for the Palace team and a key player for them. He is a fan favorite for Palace now and praised by fans and pudits alike for his consistant performances. It’s no surprise that some of the big names in Premier League were after him this summer.
INTEREST FROM NEWCASTLE
Newcastle have been in search of a centre back and had identified Marc Guehi as their top target. Despite interest from PL gianst like Liverpool and Man Utd, Newcastle have been the front runners for the defender. Meanwhile Crystal Palace have been reluctant to sell him and have already rejected multiple bids from the Magpies.
Now it has become even more harder for Guehi to leave since his defensive partner Joachim Anderson left for Fulham. Crystal Palace stay optimistic of Guehi staying despite him wanting Newcastle.
Anyways Sky Sports have recently claimed that the deal is not off despite multiple rejections. According to them the latest bid of 60 million pounds plus 5 million pounds in add onns wasn’t rejected. Instead it was subject to discussions and we believe 70 million pounds offer would seal the deal.
talkSport, Senior Football correspondent Ben Jacobs also said the same thing,
“From the perspective of Newcastle and Guehi, the chapter is not over. They’re still there at the negotiating table, and there’s a realistic possibility, even with Andersen departing, that this one still gets done.”
So the deal is till on the table and might be done in the closing days of the transfer window. Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner might end uplosing both of his first choice centre halfs in the same window. It’s two the’ll make money but with only a few days left in the transfer market it will be race against time for Palace.
NEWCASTLE EXPLORING OPTIONS
Newcastle United have been after Marc Guehi all window. But some reports have stated that Newcastle have also come up stating that Newcastle have been exploring other options. With Palace reluctant to lose Guehi, the Magpies have enquired about Edmond Tapsoba of Leverkusen and Axel Disasi of Chelsea.
They already have plenty of options in the defence already with Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar. Still they want Marc Guehi. If Newcastle agree to meet the asking price the 24 year old will be their record signing. Man Utd and Arsenal might be out of the equation with the incomings of Matthijs de Ligt and Riccardo Calafiori respectively. But Liverpool haven’t made a single signing yet and are interested in landing a centre back. With Guehi high up on their list.
