Newcastle United still unsure about the future of Elliot Anderson

Newcastle United

Newcastle United has started their pre-season on a positive note with a victory against 1860 Munich in Austria. Eddie Howe has given opportunities to many young players in the pre-season games. However, the manager has been most impressed by the performance of 19-year-old, Elliot Anderson.

The Scottish midfielder spent the latter half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Bristol Rovers and helped them push for promotion. The Pirates are interested to sign the midfielder for another season. Manager, Joey Barton is keen to reunite with the attacking midfielder for the upcoming season.

However, the Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe is yet to make a decision regarding the player. The young midfielder is promising and needs enough playing minutes to continue his development. Elliot Anderson is interested in staying at the club and fighting for a place in the first team.

Elliot Anderson is keen to stay on at Newcastle United this season

The Scottish midfielder said:

“I want to force my way into the team, but, I guess, that’s the club’s decision. I’ve just got to work as hard as I can on the pitch, and see what happens. I think it’s been really good for me, just trying to fit into the team, work on the way they play and try and impress.I just want to try and carry on the momentum I had (on loan). Obviously, it’s a lot higher standard, but I need to try and take what I did well (on loan) into these pre-season games.”

If Eddie Howe decides to loan out the player, then the destination could be a club where the midfielder is able to play maximum minutes. Bristol Rovers is a good choice in this regard as the club and manager see Anderson as a crucial player.

However, clubs from the Championship have also expressed their interest in the player. West Brom, Luton Town, and Millwall are the clubs that seem to have an interest in signing the player. If Bristol Rovers is to lure the player away then they will have to beat stiff competition from these clubs. Nevertheless, the ball is in Newcastle’s court and Eddie Howe needs to make up his mind regarding the player very soon.
