Barcelona has reportedly been used by Neymar to pen down his awaited contract extension for PSG. Neymar’s transfer rumor about returning to Barcelona is nothing new as it has been there since he left the Catalans in 2017.

But the transfer talks of Neymar returning to Barcelona heated up after PSG were poorly defeated in the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.

Neymar talked about his plans and apparently expressed his desire to return to his former club. The Brazilian felt there wasn’t a winning project in place at PSG.

Barcelona believed they could strike a deal for the forward and an emissary was even dispatched to Paris a month ago to speak with Neymar about his future about returning to Spain.

Neymar had a successful 4 years at Camp Nou as he played in 186 games, scoring 108 goals and assisting 76. He also won the La Liga twice and the Champions League with several other achievements during his stay.

Since Neymar left the Catalans they have been trying to find a replacement for him in the left-wing. They made two big signings of Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann, but they have failed to replace the Brazilian star.

Barcelona feels used by Neymar

PSG on Saturday went on to clear the transfer rumour of Neymar, as he penned down his awaited contract extension.

PSG officially announced the extension until 2025 plus an optional year. This means that any chance of Neymar joining Barcelona soon is now ruled out. The player clearly had a change of heart and penned a new contract that will see him earn a reported £500 000 a week.

After the contract extension was announced Barcelona reportedly felt used as Neymar used them as a bargaining chip to renew his contract as quickly as possible.

The Brazilian has 113 appearances with 86 goals and 51 assists during his 3 years stay at PSG. Although he has not accomplished the job for which he was signed as PSG has failed to win a Champions League.

Neymar has struggled with injuries throughout the 2020-21 campaign, and it has cost a PSG a big one as they currently sit second in the league table with only two matches to go. The French giants might end up losing the title to LOSC Lille after winning the league for consecutive seven times.
