Nico Williams transfer saga is over? What’s the final decision

In the EUROs tournament, there were many players who caught the attention of the fans. Some notable names included Riccardo Calafiori who has already made his big move to Arsenal. However, one name that made huge waves was Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and his transfer rumors.

EUROs 2024 winner Spain were never the favourites in the start. With new and young players in the squad and a new manager, no one was expecting much from them. However, their journey throughout the tournament was a testament to their potential. They defeated the likes of Italy, Croatia, Germany, France and England to be crowned as the winners.

Nico Williams, the young prodigy at the EUROs

The young prodigy from the La Masia academy, Lamine Yamal had a standout performance for the Spanish side. There was another player too who grabbed the attention with his gameplay. Nico Williams, a player of Athletic Bilbao also delivered an exceptional performance. His coordination and partnership with Yamal on both the flanks was a treat to watch for the football fans.

In the tournament, rumors were made regarding Williams’ new club and Barcelona seemed to be the favorites. The idea of reuniting the partnership of Yamal and Williams was a match made in heaven for the Culers. FC Barcelona never actually made an offer to bring the youngster to the club.

Barcelona’s financial condition has been a mess for quite few years. Signing a player for them isn’t that easy in the current market scenario. Signing Nico Williams seemed possible and the board’s words also seemed like a confirmation for that.

The end to this transfer saga

Barcelona president Laporta said, ” I like Nico Williams. I also think that financially we can afford him.” Those words seemed like a confirmation. With no official offer and the latest updates, it seems like the deal won’t go through.

Apart from Barcelona, Arsenal were amongst the clubs who were interested to sign the Spanish winger. They also never made an official offer and the talks never began for the deal.

Now Nico Williams has made a decision for his career. He will continue at Athletic Bilbao for one more year. It’s a good news for the fan of Athletic Bilbao, for Barcelona, its just another disappointing transfer fail.

Given the form of the youngster, one more promising year at Athletic Bilbao can increase his transfer value. Athletic can capitalize even further on the player and get the best deal possible.

FC Barcelona’s transfer plans

Barcelona may now look to consider different options in the transfer market. Their current pursuit is of another Spanish player. The staff and the backroom team is eyeing for a deal for Dani Olmo. They have already agreed the personal terms with the player. According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona has submitted a bid of €60 million to RB Leipzig for the player.

The latest updates is that Barcelon’s agent are in Germany. It’s the club’s primary focus to get this deal completed as soon as they can. It now only seems like a matter of time for this deal to be completed. There also should not be much difficulty in the transfer fee and the deal should be executed properly. However, no one can predicted last minute surprises in football transfers.

With just less than a month remaining in the window, Barcelona have to be quick do to some business. Their rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are making some serious moves. Real have already confirmed the signing of Kylian Mbappe and Atletico are on the verge of completing Julian Alvarez’s signing.
