Noni Madueke hit a second half hat-trick as Chelsea beat Wolves. This was after Madueke made some insulting comments about the city earlier.
Noni Madueke who was set to make his first start of the season for Chelsea was received by booes at the Molineux. It was not a surprise considering the fact that a small mistake from Madueke had kick started a small controversey online. The England U23 man had posted some insulting comments on the story of his official Instagram account. The winger was unaffected by the resounding insults and responded with a second half hat-trick.
Chelsea faced Wolves on Sunday as they were looking for their first victory of the Premier League season. The Blues were on the back of a thursday night victory against Servette in the UEFA Europa Conference League. While Wolves had lost their season opener against Arsenal.
WHAT MADUEKE DID?
On Sunday, By 12 am midnight UK time a story was posted on Noni Madueke’s official Instagram handle. It said ‘Everything about this place is sh*t’ in white letters in a black background also geo tagged the city of Wolverhampton. It was taken down in an instance. But What Madueke didn’t expect was that online media instantly picked it up. It started circulating through social media and Madueke came up with another story which said ‘Damn wrong instagram account…You lot are too fast’. Madueke had intended to post it on his unofficial instagram account followed by his close friends and family members. It was really an insulting comment on the part of Madueke and a grave mistake from his part.
It was certain that he will not see a pleasant Wolverhampton crowd on Sunday afternoon. He even started for Chelsea against Wolves. The crowd had started booing whenever Madueke touched the ball.
HAT-TRICK PERFORMANCE
The 22 year old had to face with insults from an annoyed Wolverhampton crowd. Madueke wasn’t fazed by the booes and put up an excellent display in the match. In the first half of the match Madueke along with Palmer were at the helm of every Chelsea attack. Madueke made the first effort at goal which lead to the corner that yielded the first goal. Madueke went on to have one more shot on target in the first half.
It was in the second half that Wolverhampton saw Madueke run riot at their team. Early in the first half Madueke scored his first goal (49′), a deflected shot from the right side of the box went past the keeper. The second goal again assisted by Palmer who dribbled towards the opposition defence before releasing a last minute pass into the way of Noni Madueke in the right who slotted the ball to the far corner. After just four minutes Madueke was presented with another oppertunity which he thrashed past the Wolves keeper Jose Sa to complete his hat-trick. Again set up by Cole Palmer who himself got hat-trick of assists.
Wolves conceded one more later from Joao Felix set up by their former player Pedro Neto rounding off a 6-2 defeat at home.
It was brutal from the part of Wolves fans who saw their city trashed earlier that day by an opposition player and had to suffer again in the afternoon watching their team thrashed by the same player.
THE APOLOGY
According to The Guardian, Noni Madueke later on apologised for his mistake. The 22 year old said after the match.
‘I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended. It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn’t meant to be out on my socials like that. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I’m sorry.”
A class act from Madueke acknowledging his mistake and apologising to Wolves fans. He also went on to say that Wolverhampton was a ‘beautiful city’. Real act of maturity from the winger.
