NorthEast United will face Chennaiyin FC on Sunday evening at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco. NorthEast United started their Indian Super League campaign very well. They are currently sitting at 3rd place behind Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan. Chennaiyin are at 8th following back-to-back defeats in the league.
NEUFC won six times and lost only thrice against the Machans scoring 22 goals in the process, their highest against any opposition in the ISL.
NorthEast United come in this fixture after a draw with Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC after a 1-2 defeat against Mumbai City FC.
Match Preview of NorthEast United-Chennaiyin FC:
NorthEast go into the game as one of the two unbeaten sides remaining in ISL this season. Their confidence is certainly high after they snatched a point from Bengaluru FC in their last game.
Their head coach Gerard Nus labeled the 2-2 draw as a positive result. However, the high-flying Highlanders’ manager showed respect to Chennaiyin.
“Chennaiyin is going to be a competitive side… We have to expect a side that is going to play with commitment and aggression and we have to be ready for it”– Gerard Nus
The Highlanders played really well and collected praise from all. Their defence looked rock-solid throughout and they are the joint highest scorers of the tournament with Mumbai.
On the other hand, the Machans have endured a difficult period in the last couple of weeks. They started strongly with a 2-1 win against Jamshedpur FC and a 0-0 draw versus Kerala Blasters followed. Then they lost two games against Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC and are at 4 points after 4 games.
Their head coach Csaba Laszlo said he was proud of his players following their defeat against Mumbai. They started the game strongly, but Sergio Lobera’s side kept composure and won the game 2-1 despite a late fightback from Chennai.
I am proud of how my boys played football today. I think this was one of the best games in the Hero ISL till now and it was entertaining. But we suffered a defeat, which was painful.– Csaba Laszlo
Speaking of NEUFC, Laszlo praised them a lot and said that they have to be prepared.
Team News and Predicted Line-up:
Both teams do not have any significant injury concerns at the moment. NEUFC have a pretty well-balanced side who are showing superb courage and heart on the field. Their attack consisting of Luis Machado, Kwesi Appiah, and Idrissa Sylla is gunning currently with all of them scored 2 goals each.
Chennaiyin are struggling to finish many chances they’ve created so far. They have scored only three goals so far, with Jakub Sylvestr and Esmael Goncalves scoring once each.
Chennaiyin are expected to start with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Sylvestr at the top. However, Nus may start his favorite 4-3-3 with a forward line of Machado, Appiah, and Suhair Vadakkepeedika.
NEUFC: GK: Gurmeet; DF: Ashutosh Mehta, Lambot, Dylan Fox, Gurjinder Kumar; MF: Lalrempuia, Khassa Camara, Rochharzela; FW: Suhair Vadakkepeedika, Kwesi Appiah, Luis Machado.
