Huge set back for Arsenal as the recent update reveal their captain Martin Odegaard is set to be sidelined for a while with injury.
Arteta will be delighted after the North London derby victory on Sunday despite suffering major set backs in midfield. The Gunners took maximum points out of their rivals Spurs with a 0-1 victory. They had big names like Odegaard and Declan Rice miss out with injury and suspension respectively. Arteta made major tweaks in their lineup and succeded in comming out with a statement win at the home of their rivals. We will be descussing about the latest updates and Arsenal’s future prospects without their captain.
ODEGAARD INJURY UPDATE
Martin Odegaard suffered a horrific ankle injury when playing for Norway against Austria in the Nations League. A crunch tackle from Austrian forward Christoph Baumgartner made the norwegian captain suffer from severe pain and was forced off the pitch. It looked serious from the moment and was was confirmed later when pictures surfaced of Odegaard boarding a plane on crutches. He was then completely assesed by the Arsenal medical team back in London. Despite Arteta being optimistic in the media there was no chance for Odegaard was going to play on Sunday and he didn’t.
A reliable sports journalist David Ornstein shared what he heard in a youtube video. According to him Odegard was never going to make it for he derby match on Sunday. We went on to say “The last I heard we didn’t have full clarity from the scans still because of the full extent of the swelling but the extent of the swelling concerns you if you’re an Arsenal fan.”
Another sports journalist James Benge also ‘heard’ something about Odegaard injury update. And if it’s true it’s really concerning from an Arsenal point of view. He is saying atleast three weeks, that’s the time Odegaard is set to be sidelined.
He also went on to suggest that “even they were talking, you know, something that maybe runs out beyond four weeks. Now, once you get to that four-week mark, you’re into the next international break.”
So there is chance of Odegaard to be sidelined untill and after the next International Break. Arsenal might be hating International break by now. Th reality is much bleak surrounding Odegaard. But as per reports he is set to miss the midweek Champions League match and the Man City match this weekend.
LIFE WITHOUT ODEGAARD
Arsenal and Arteta might have to accept the reality and prepare for a life without their captain Martin Odegaard for atleast four weeks. Anyway they can be relieved that they have surpassed the primary challenge after their win against Tottenham. It must be a huge boost of confidence as the Gunners lined up with major tweaks in their lineup. It was a major challenge in front of Arteta as he missed out on two starters for a big match. The Gunners boss went with Leandro Trossard as the spear head in attack and Kai Havertz in place of Odegaard. It looked like a 4-4-2 formation but Havertz actually played a deep role with Martinelli and Saka on the flanks.
The reports suggests that Odegaard will be out untill the end of next International Break that is untill 19th October. In between he is going to miss major matches like this week’s UEFA Champions League fixture. Arsenal travel to Bergamo for the first match against Atalanta and they would be hoping for a good start. Then comes the biggest of the challenges of facing title challengers Man City away from home. Gunners should take atleast a point from the Etihad Stadium if they plan to challenge for the title this season.
We expect to see changes and some experiments from Arteta as they plan to survive without their captain Martin Odegaard.
