Odisha FC organize friendly matches for girls on AFC’s Women’s Football Day

Football of Association of Odisha (FAO) and Odisha Football Club (OFC) jointly organized a football clinic and friendly match today, to celebrate AFC Women’s Football Day and International Women’s Day at the Bidanasi ground in Cuttack.

The event saw the participation of 86 girls from neighboring areas of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the clinic, which was conducted by OFC and FAO coaches and officials. Respected dignitaries from the FAO, Shri Bijay Das (Vice-President), Shri Dilip Sahoo (Vice President) Shri Md. Shahid Jabbar (Jt. Secy), Shri Bhakta Ballav Das (Treasurer), Mrs. Sangita Sharma (Jt Secy), former India Women’s Captain and Odia football legend Shradhanjali Samantaray, blessed the occasion with their presence to support the initiative. 

The clinic was followed by a friendly match between Odisha Women’s League 2022 Champions Odisha Police and Bidanasi Club. Odisha Police ran out winners in the match, with a score of 2-0. 

Current India Women’s team striker Pyari Xaxa and India international Jabamani Tudu were also in attendance. Both Odisha players were felicitated with Odisha FC jerseys for being inspirational figures in Odisha women’s football.

Odisha FC Head of Academy & Women’s Football, Randeep Baruah, addressed the gathering saying,

“I am very grateful to all the girls who’ve come to play football and celebrate this day with us. The OFC Women’s team is our project of pride and ambition. We will use every opportunity we can to promote the Women’s game and provide our players with technical expertise to play professionally. We will work hard towards providing our team to play more competitive matches, receive global exposure, and create a successful club that all Odias will be proud of.” 

The event concluded with the distribution of local snacks for all participants and visiting officials. This was a part of OFC’s Women’s Football Outreach & Development program, carrying the motto of #HerGameOurPride.
