The Kolkata giants won the last game between the teams which Mohun Bagan won 1-0 with a last gasp injury-time goal.
Odisha FC are struggling at the bottom of the table with one win and 8 points in 14 games. However, they fought pretty well against a good Jamshedpur FC side.
On the other hand, the Mariners have fought back from 0-2 down to seal an exciting 3-2 win against Kerala Blasters in their last game. They will move within 3 points of leaders Mumbai City FC if they win against Odisha FC.
Odisha FC vs ATK Mohun Bagan FC Preview:
Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Habas will be worried about his defensive woes recently. They kept 7 clean sheets in the first 9 games of the season and kept only 1 in the last five. This resulted in a dip of form, which saw them slip from the top spot and lag behind Mumbai.
Still, they boast the second-best defence in the league, having conceded the least amount of goals from open play this season.
Moreover, their attack has also been toothless for some time now. In the last game, they scored more than three goals for the first time this season. Also, that was equal to their total goal tally in the last 4 games before the Kerala game.
On the other hand, Odisha FC’s interim head coach Gerald Peyton has problems all over the pitch. Their attack is not scoring enough goals. Also, they have produced only three different goal scorers, the least in the league.
Also, their defence is leaking goals in every game. They have kept only one clean sheet all season and conceded 21 goals, only less than Kerala Blasters in the league. All of this has contributed to their current position in the table.
From the Managers
Peyton acknowledged their shortcomings throughout the season but stated that everyone is together and they will bounce back from this very poor patch.
“We had a few meetings and it’s been very, very positive for everybody connected. It brought us together. All the senior players and all the Indian players, we are getting together now. We are going to show in the last six games, a very positive attitude and a determination to win as many games as possible and take the club forward,” – Peyton ahead of the game.
On the other hand, Habas’s side has only one target in front of them, to finish at the top. But the Spanish coach is very cautious as he knows every game in the ISL is tough. He reminded that there is no room for complacency because of their opposition’s poor form.
“The competition in the Hero ISL means that there are no small teams. There are also special situations that when the team changes their head coach, there is always more motivation for the players. We have to play the match the same way we would have played against a strong team like Mumbai City,” – Antonio Habas.
Odisha FC 0-2 ATK Mohun Bagan
Although the team from Bhubaneswar has been very disappointing this season, they have some moments which will bring optimism to them. The 4-2 win against Kerala Blasters, the resilient performance against the Mariners in the reverse fixture to name a few.
Still, keeping all in mind, we should expect a convincing victory for Mohun Bagan on Saturday.
