Ole Solskjaer Not Expecting any Signings in January for Manchester United

Wolves

Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he is not expecting the club to make any signings in the January transfer window.

At the start of the season, after the displays the team was putting up, squad strengthening was expected. But the progress they have made shows there is no need for any new additions.

At least a centre-back was expected to arrive in January to partner Harry Maguire. However, with Eric Bailly regaining his fitness and Victor Lindelof getting a competition, that problem seems to be solved. Both of them has delivered solid performances with the Ivorian impressing the most.

OLE HAPPY WITH THE UNITED SQUAD:

The only player that arrived this month is Amad Diallo, although he was signed in the previous transfer window.

Ole is already struggling to provide enough playtime to the existing players. Every player has been performing excellently and Ole has had to make the tough decision of dropping players too. And more addition would only double the trouble.

“I wouldn’t think so, no. I’d be surprised if we do any incomings. The squad is strong, it’s full of quality. I still need to leave players out for the squad at times. Bar something surprising happening, I wouldn’t think something will happen [in terms of] incomings. – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to Sky Sports News

Manchester United are currently having their best season in the post-Ferguson era. They are 2nd in the Premier League table after they slipped a place as Manchester City thrashed West Brom 5-0 on Tuesday night. But they are separated by only 1 point and United can regain the top spot when they host Sheffield United today.

This is also the first time in 7 years that United has competed mightily for the Premier League. They also have eyes on the Europa League and the FA Cup as they hope to end the trophy-less drought. Ole will also want to earn his first silverware soon.

PLAYERS LIKELY TO LEAVE?

Along with denying any incoming signings, Ole did mention about the possibility of a few players leaving Manchester United. The out of favour midfielder, Jesse Lingard and the young full-back Brandon Williams has been the latest players linked with an away move.

Jesse Lingard had a few approaches made by clubs abroad as well as from England. But a reunion with the former United manager, David Moyes at West Ham on a loan looks the likely possibility with the club said to have made the most recent contact.

Brandon has been linked with a loan move to Southampton and German side Bayer Leverkusen. But a solid offer has not yet been made.

“They’re still part of the club, part of the squad, training well. No deal has been struck for any of the players yet going out – still a little period left, of course. – Ole when asked about Lingard and Williams

United’s new winger, Facundo Pellistri who has been playing for the U-23 side since his arrival has been linked with a temporary move to Spain for some 1st team experience.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah became the first player to leave the club this window after he made a move to Bayer Leverkusen. Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero have been told that their contracts will not be extended. Rojo is waiting for an approach from his hometown club Boca Juniors whereas Romero is trying for a move to MLS.

Odion Ighalo will be departing to China after his loan spell at United has expired. He left a heartfelt message on social media as he confirmed his departure.
