Olivier Giroud, the veteran 34-year-old striker is facing uncertainty at Chelsea, over not being picked up in the starting eleven.
France international was crucial in helping West London giants to reach top-four in Premier League last season. His form at the end of the last season even kept Tammy Abraham out of starting eleven at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have had a great summer transfer window with the big-name signings such as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech as the forwards. Hence, head coach Frank Lampard has full of options upfront this season.
Olivier Giroud is an important player- Frank Lampard:
Olivier Giroud has not been a regular starter for the Blues after the new recruits brought in by Lampard.
Chelsea had a very good transfer season with spending over £200 million and building a strong team. They are sitting at 3rd place in the Premier League table with 18 points from 9 league fixtures.
Frank Lampard mentioned Giroud as an important player and he has plans for him.
“He was very important last year, he played a lot of games and made a lot of starts. He’ll always want to play more but he’s a huge member of the squad for me.”
“I know he will be important for us going forward, so I want Oli to be here and to stay.”– Frank Lampard on Oliver Giroud
What’s next for Giroud?
Olivier Giroud is frustrated about his lack of playing time of just 36 minutes in this season of Premier League.
2018 World Cup winner Giroud is concerned about playing very less football. In one of the excerpts from Sports Mole, he said,
“It is concerning because I believe I still have a role to play in the team especially after having a very good end to the last season and I contributed to qualifying for the Champions League.”
“I will have to take a decision in January but I hope to take the right decision. I have always done that of course.”– Olivier Giroud
The Athletic reports that Chelsea are willing to allow Giroud to leave in January. Giroud had been wanted by Serie A giants Inter Milan and MLS debutant club Inter Miami.
Inter Milan currently sit at 5th position in Serie A. They previously tried to bring N’Golo Kante to Inter from Chelsea for a possible reunion of old Chelsea coach Antonio Conte. Now, they are behind Giroud to add more experience to their lineup.
Inter Miami is another club expressing interest in Giroud. Co-owned by David Beckham, Miami have not been that successful in the US. They previously roped in Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus. Now, Giroud could make the team even better.
