French superstar Olivier Giroud will most likely become an AC Milan player by the end of this week. Chelsea and Milan have come to an agreement, and it’s only a matter of time before the deal is complete. It all comes down to the final set of agreements and a medical to finally announce the new signing.
Even at 34, Giroud’s work-rate and class is undeniable. He bagged 10 goals in 25 appearances for Chelsea last season. He has been behind the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz but surely gives his best when he plays. Chelsea will surely miss his towering headers, unpredictable touches and predatory instincts.
The Rossoneris are having a very busy transfer window. Squad depth is their priority and they have everywhere scouting the best players. Keeping in mind the financial constrains owing to the pandemic, the board has been trying to negotiate the best deals.
Giroud finally at Milan
The Frenchman has been linked to Milan ever since his minutes at Stamford Bridge became scarce. The emergence of Tammy Abraham put Giroud on the bench during the 19/20 season. At that point of time, it was Inter Milan who were ready to snatch him but the deal never through. He was among a few players Antonio Conte wanted from his former club. Emerson and Marcos Alonso too were linked with a move to Inter.
None of the deals reached a fruitful conclusion and before we could start off with another transfer window, Conte left Inter. This allowed other Italian clubs to get into the mix. Roma and AC Milan have been the busiest and their efforts are slowly paying off.
What’s next?
The exchange of documents will be happening by tomorrow, which means that the medical will be another day or two. Giroud has been pushing for the move and this would mean another successful transfer between Chelsea and AC Milan.
This will be Milan’s fourth signing after Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori and Sandro Tonali with the latter two signing after impressive loan spells.
