Ollie Watkins Reveals Private Chat with Declan Rice Amid Arsenal Transfer Speculation

Ollie Watkins shared details of a private conversation he had with Declan Rice after Arsenal were advised to sign him. Arsenal are looking for a new attacker, and Watkins has been playing really well for Aston Villa this season, scoring 19 goals and making 12 assists in 34 Premier League matches.

Former Arsenal player Theo Walcott suggested that Arsenal should sign Watkins in the next transfer window because he’s been performing like Thierry Henry.

Another former Arsenal player, Mikael Silvestre, also said he thinks Arsenal should go for Watkins instead of Ivan Toney from Brentford, who they were interested in earlier this year.

Watkins and Rice’s Secret Chat Revealed

Ollie Watkins, who got compliments from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry back in March, has now spilled the beans on private chats he had with Arsenal’s midfielder Declan Rice. They didn’t talk about Watkins joining Arsenal, but rather about Aston Villa’s chances of winning the Europa Conference League. Rice had won that trophy with West Ham last season.

Before Villa’s Europa Conference League semi-final against Olympiacos, Watkins shared this with TNT Sports. He said,

“I spoke to Dec (Declan Rice) at England. [He was] confident that we’re going to win it. We’re confident ourselves but you never know what’s going to happen. You never know with these teams. Lille put us under a lot of pressure and it’s going to be difficult but I think we have got the squad to do it.”

“My idol was Thierry Henry. I always felt when he cut inside from the left and bending it in, that was always… I scored one against Luton! But Henry did it frequently.”

“I’m not on that level yet. But he’s someone I wanted to be like. I have my own style of how I play, but growing up he was the main man. I personally think he is the best player to play in the Premier League. He could do it all and he was untouchable, really.”
