Osimhen lands in Istanbul!

Victor Osimhen finally manages to find his new club in Turkey after his exclusion from Napoli‘s squad. Osimhen is one of the best strikers in world football right now. Top football clubs around the world were targeting him this transfer window. The list includes teams like Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and even Al Ahli from the Saudi Pro League.

After a failed move to Chelsea, Osimhen had no choice but to leave Napoli as they excluded him from their game plan this season.

Reportedly interests were coming forth from Saudi and Turkish clubs. But Osimhen never wanted a move to the middle east at this stage of his career.

So, the Turkish giants Galatasaray agreed on a loan deal to bring the Nigerian striker for the remainder of the season. This loan deal includes no obligation to buy. It will also cover Osimhen’s salary for the season.

Why Osimhen joined Gala?

Chelsea were very close to sign the Nigerian striker but Osimhen didn’t accept to their package terms. The Nigerian was earning £207,000-a-week at Napoli where as Chelsea offered him a salary of £130,000-a-week. Osimhen wasn’t ready to have a extreme pay cut to join the Blues.

The transfer window closed on 30th August and Osimhen failed to join a club amongst the top five leagues. He couldn’t have played for Napoli due to his exclusion from their squad. As per reports relation between the club and the player is completely shattered.

At this stage Osimhen had only two choices. Either join a club in the Turkish or Saudi league as interests were coming from there or stay as a Napoli player without playing any football until the winter transfer window opens in January 2025. Napoli were always keen on letting the player go this window as they wanted the awkward situation to end.

So Osimhen decided to join the Istanbul based club Galatasaray in the Turkish League. It is the 9th ranked league across all Europe. It is also a very competitive league as clubs like Fenerbahce, Besiktas competes here.

This move has surprised a lot of people in the footballing world. Man City ace Ilkay Gundogan thinks the decision is wild as he commented on Fabrizio Romano‘s Instagram handle.

It may look wild as a player of his profile joining the Turkish league at such age. But Osimhen had no other choice left if he wanted to stay in Europe. But the most exciting part is this deal includes a rare clause which can be very beneficial for Osimhen’s future.

What is the rare clause?

As per the reports of A Spor, the loan deal between Osimhen and Galatasaray includes a unique clause. It will allow him to leave Istanbul and join one of the top 10 clubs that he have listed, in the January transfer window.

But the Nigerian had to extend his contract with Napoli, so that they can ensure their transfer fee money. However, Napoli has lowered Osimhen’s transfer clause from £110m to £63m, so that Osimhen can join a top football club without any issues.

Such an amount can open the doors for many football clubs in the race of signing the 25 year old. Arsenal and Liverpool were always interested in signing a striker and now they can afford to bid for Osimhen.

However, Chelsea is in the prime position to sign the Nigerian as they have already done their paper works before. The Blues can even manage to provide a much higher salary to the Nigerian, as they will be saving around £47m from the transfer fees.

As of now Osimhen will be staying in Turkey for the next 5 months until the winter transfer window opens. Further negotiations with other clubs will start from January for the Nigerian. All eyes will be on Osimhen as he will play his debut match against Rizespor in the Super Lig on 14th of September.
