Real Madrid is looking to strengthen their backline as they are targeting Villareal defender Pau Torres next summer. Multiple news outlets have reported Madrid’s interest in Torres as they look to replace their former captain Sergio Ramos.

The last summer saw a lot of departures from Real Madrid as both Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane left the club. This has left a big hole in the defence of the Los Blancos. The record Champions League winners want to address this issue and Torres is one of the candidates on their list.

Torres himself was linked with multiple clubs this summer after his brilliant performances with Villareal. The Spaniard was the topic of transfer rumours for Premier League sides Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs. However, he decided to remain and would now be moving to Madrid next summer.

TORRES TO FILL RAMOS SHAPE HOLE IN MADRID

Pau Torres is one of the promising central defenders in Spain. He has become a regular for the Yellow Submarines and was a key figure in their Europa League victory last season. The 24-year-old has 94 appearances for the senior side already and have scored 5 times for his club.

A strong passer of the ball, Torres is also good at dribbling. Solid blocker at the back, he also does not dive into tackles. He also has made 14 appearances for Spain national side and was part of their Euro 2020 squad.

Real Madrid is undergoing a transition and has many issues to address in their team. The departure of Ramos and Varane was not met with an adequate replacement. The only centre-back that the club brought in was David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free. This means that the Los Blancos are in serious need of defensive reinforcement.

Torres is said to have a €50 million release clause on him. Real Madrid is monitoring the development of the player and they will likely bring him to Santiago Bernabeu the next summer.
