Paul Merson highlights Chelsea’s biggest problem

Chelsea have been doing really well under Enzo Maresca. They are on the 6th position in the Premier League with 14 points. Arsenal legend Paul Merson has now reflected on the biggest problem Chelsea are facing and it is regarding star player Cole Palmer.

The Blues lost against Liverpool at Anfield but were very good and had more ball control. Paul Merson thinks it was because of one particular thing done by The Reds. Take a look at what he had to say.

Merson says Blues struggle if Palmer is man marked

While speaking to Sportskeeda, Paul Merson said Chelsea might struggle if their opponents get one thing right. That thing is marking Cole Palmer who has been their best player since last season.

“I just hope Chelsea don’t become flat track bullies. They failed to win against City and Liverpool. Well, you could say they did play well at Anfield last weekend but they ended up losing even then” – Paul Merson about Chelsea’s defeat.

“Cole Palmer never touched the ball in that game. This is the problem Chelsea are going to have, teams will stop Palmer and they have to find solutions” – Merson speaking about Palmer’s performance against Liverpool.

The Blues did seem to struggle when Palmer is marked properly. He has been their best player and is even one of the best players in the world right now. Enzo Maresca needs to find solution for this issue or Chelsea may once again fall short of securing their place in top four.

Luckily for Chelsea, they don’t have shortage of options. Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke are already performing very well this season. One of the rest (Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho) can make all the difference if used properly. Recently Chelsea legend Frank Lampard urged Maresca to keep Neto in starting eleven for the next matches.
