Pele Congratulates Ronaldo for Surpassing his Goal Tally

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Cagliari on Sunday to complete a whopping 770 goals. With this hat-trick, he crossed the Brazilian legend Pele’s record of 767 career goals.

Ronaldo reached the 767 goal mark on 2nd March after scoring against Spezia. The Portuguese forward has scored 668 goals in club football. Five for Sporting Lisbon, 118 for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid, and 95 for Juventus. He has also scored 120 for Portugal.

Pele is the only player in history who has won three World Cups and has claimed to have 1283 goals including the unofficial matches. However, social media claims that Austrian-Czech Legend Josef Bican has 805 goals which is more than both Ronaldo and Pele.

Pele congratulates Ronaldo on social media

“I’m filled with joy and pride as I acknowledge the goal that puts me on top of the World’s goalscoring list, overcoming Pele’s record, something that I could never have dreamed of while growing up as a child from Madeira.” – Cristiano Ronaldo

“Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches. I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone. My only regret is not being able to give you a hug today. Cristiano’s life is a solo flight. Each makes his own journey. And what a beautiful journey you are having!” – Pele after Ronaldo broke his record

After losing against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League, Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo needed a great follow-up performance and nothing is better than scoring a perfect hat-trick. Also breaking the record of a football legend.
