AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is reportedly closing in on a contract extension with the club to prolong his future at the Italian capital as per the recent reports.

The 25-year-old returned to the Giallorossi back in 2017 after having a short spell at fellow Serie A side Sassuolo. The midfielder has started the season brilliantly under the new manager José Mourinho, scoring two goals and assisting one time in the first three league appearances.

According to the report, the Roma hierarchy and the representative of Pellegrini had a meeting recently to find a solution regarding the contract extension. The player wants to be one of the highest earners in the club and the Italy international will sign a contract until June 2026.

Both parties are hopeful that a deal can be agreed upon in the upcoming days or hours. The Portuguese manager is happy with the midfielder’s performance so far. And he desperately wants to keep a hold on to the player who has only one year remaining in his current contract.

Pellegrini on the verge of signing a new contract with Roma:

The midfielder has already provided his worth at the Olimpico Stadium and tying him up in a long-term contract will be a great business from the Giallorossi. The playmaker was also rewarded with the honour of becoming the club captain. Following his impressive performances over the past few campaigns.

The 25-year-old can score goals from the middle of the park and also can provide assists. He also has the ability to play in multiple positions in midfield which is an impressive attribute to have for any midfielder. So, offering a new contract with a salary increment to Pellegrini is a shrewd decision from Roma.

Meanwhile, after an unblemished start to a new season. The Giallorossi are currently sitting at the top of the Serie A league table with nine points in three games. Mourinho’s side snatched a late victory on Sunday night against Sassuolo to place themselves at the top. They will be looking to continue their winning run when they meet Hellas Verona next in the league.
